136 West 17th Street: Review and Ratings

between Avenue Of The Americas & Seventh Avenue View Full Building Profile

Carter Horsley
Review of 136 West 17th Street by Carter Horsley

This condominium apartment building was erected in 2004 between two handsome Italian-Renaissance-palazzo pre-war structures on one of the nicer blocks in Chelsea.

It has a very elegant design highlighted by large, four-paned windows that are centered on the façade. The top two-floors of the 8-story building, which has full-floor and duplex apartments, are setback.

The building is a little to the west of the handsome Winston Preparatory School at 122-6 West 17th Street.

The building s website correctly describes this building as "sleek yet serene, this is a new, warm modernism." "Tres Piu glass pocket doors by Antonio Citterio for Poliform seamlessly divide public and private spaces. Rift-cut white oak cabinetry and sliding doors unify....Tumbled stone stiles drape a curved accent wall in the master bath."

The seven apartments have key-lock elevator access and individual storage units, wide plank oak flooring, high ceilings, Subzero refrigerators, Bosch dishwashers, Viking wine coolers, Miele cooktop, wall oven and washer/dryer, central-air-conditioning and gas-forced air heat. The duplex penthouses have wood-burning fireplaces and custom steel staircases.
